Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cool Cities?
Started in 2005, the Cool Cities Program is a nationwide network of local volunteer activists who have worked with their local leaders to make a commitment to curb global warming. Over 1000 leaders have signed onto the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and the Cool Counties Climate Stabilization Declaration. Today, Cool Cities campaigns – both existing and new — are working with their community to implement clean energy solutions, including energy efficiency buildings.

My city is not listed on the website. Why?
The cities listed on the website represent communities where there is or was an active Cool Cities campaign. For all new city requests and communities without a contact, we are looking for activists to lead the local campaign, be the contact for other interested volunteers, and commit to updating their city profile regularly. E-mail cool.cities@sierraclub.org if you are interested in leading your local campaign.
How do I update my city profile?
You must be the contact for the city to update the profile. If there is no contact and you are interested in being the local campaign contact, e-mail cool.cities@sierraclub.org.
How do I work with my local leaders?
Download the "Green Building for Cool Cities" toolkit to working with local leaders and our campaign partner, the US Green Building Council.
